2018 FIFA World Cup heads to Europe

United States have pulled out of the race

FIFA have welcomed the news that the United States have pulled out of the race to stage the 2018 World Cup.

It means that a European nation will definitely host the event in 2018 following Australia’s withdrawal in June.

FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke, echoing comments he made at the time of the Australian decision, said: “We have had an open and constructive dialogue with the USA bid for some time now, after it became apparent that there was a growing movement to stage the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Europe.

“The announcement by the USA bid to focus solely on the 2022 FIFA World Cup is therefore a welcome gesture which is much appreciated by FIFA.”

And that in turn means England will no longer stake a claim for the 2022 event, instead focusing all their attentions on the tournament in eight years’ time.

England’s is one of four European bids for 2018 and is up against Russia and joint bids by Belgium/Holland and Spain/Portugal.

With FIFA statutes preventing two successive World Cups being held in the same continent, the race for the 2022 tournament will now be between Australia, Japan, South Korea, Qatar and the USA.

A statement from the England bid team read: “England 2018/22 today confirmed to FIFA that it was withdrawing its candidature from the FIFA World Cup 2022 and will now focus on its bid to host the tournament in 2018.

“This followed consultation with UEFA president Michel Platini on the most appropriate moment to withdraw.

“England 2018 is delighted it is now clear the FIFA World Cup will be coming to Europe in 2018 following the withdrawal of the United States bid.”

The 2018 bid continued yesterday with British Prime Minister David Cameron meeting his Trinidad and Tobago counterpart Kamla Persad-Bissessar to canvas support.

Mrs Persad-Bissessar is a political ally of FIFA vice-president Jack Warner, who is a member of her cabinet as well as head of the north and central American football federation CONCACAF.

With CONCACAF wielding three votes on FIFA’s executive committee, Mr Warner will be an influential voice when the 2018 hosts are chosen on December 2.

President Obama's chief of staff - and chief enforcer - Rahm Emanuel is stepping down Friday to launch his bid to be mayor of Chicago, The Associated Press is reporting.

Emanuel is expected to launch a new campaign website soon and could be walking the streets of the Windy City as soon as Monday, the AP says.

Sources have told the Daily News that Emanuel would declare his plans by Friday.

Speculation over Emanuel's future erupted after longtime Chicago Mayor Richard Daley announced earlier this month that he would not seek reelection.

Emanuel, a congressman from Chicago before he joined the White House, has said that being mayor is his dream job and he even polled voters to test his chances.

A source close to Emanuel had warned that he was weighing the decision with his family, as he did before deciding to uproot them two years ago to come to Washington.

Executions in the US have been postponed because of a shortage of one of the drugs used in lethal injections.

Several of the 35 states that inject are either rushing to find sodium thiopental – an anaesthetic that makes the condemned inmate unconscious – or considering using another drug. But both routes are strewn with legal or ethical roadblocks.

The shortage delayed an Oklahoma execution last month and led Kentucky’s governor to postpone the signing of death warrants for two inmates.

Arizona is trying to get its hands on the drug in time for its next execution, in late October. California said the shortage will force it to stop executions on Friday, three hours after an inmate is scheduled to die, when its stock expires.

The sole US manufacturer, Hospira, has blamed the shortage on problems with its raw-material suppliers and said new batches of sodium thiopental will not be available until January at the earliest.

Nine states have a total of 17 executions scheduled between now and the end of January, including Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas.

“We are working to get it back onto the market for our customers as soon as possible,” a Hospira spokesman said.

But at least one death penalty expert was sceptical of the explanation, noting that the company has made it clear it objects to using its drugs for executions. Hospira also makes the two other chemicals used in lethal injections.

Sodium thiopental is a barbiturate, used primarily to anaesthetise surgical patients and induce medical comas. It is also used to help terminally ill people commit suicide and sometimes to put down animals.

Thirty-three of the states that have lethal injection employ the three-drug combination that was created in the 1970s: First, sodium thiopental is given by syringe to put the inmate to sleep. Then two other drugs are administered: pancuronium bromide, which paralyses muscles, and potassium chloride, which stops the heart.

Ohio and Washington use just one drug to carry out executions: a single, extra-large dose of sodium thiopental.

Switching to another anaesthetic would be difficult for some states. Some, like California, Missouri and Kentucky, adopted their execution procedures after lengthy court proceedings, and changing drugs could take time and invite lawsuits.

Former members of the US air force have claimed aliens had interfered with nuclear weapons - including during one famous incident in Britain.
UFO researcher Robert Hastings held a press conference in Washington yesterday to “address the vital issue of UFO incursions at US nuclear weapons sites over the past six decades”.

Mr Hastings said: “More than 100 former or retired US Air Force personnel - once trusted to operate or guard weapons of mass destruction - have come forward and revealed ongoing UFO surveillance of, and occasional interference with, our nuclear weapons.

“This information alters the historical perspective on the nuclear arms race and much, much more," he said.
“The fact that the Pentagon and CIA have successfully kept the truth from public view for so long is in itself mind-boggling.”

The Rendlesham Forest incident, often described as “Britain’s Roswell” was used as one example of evidence aliens had targeted nuclear weapons. The incident, in the early hours of December 27th, 1980, was never fully explained.

Several US air force personnel reported seeing a strange metallic object hovering in the forest near RAF Woodbridge in Suffolk. The object apparently left three depressions in the ground.

But papers released by the National Archives show the Ministry of Defence’s final position was that there was “no evidence of anything having intruded into British airspace”.

San Francisco Explosion

Kills One in PG&E Gas Line Break San Francisco Explosion of a Pacific Gas and Electric Co (PG&E) gas line

San Francisco Explosion kills one.
Pacific Gas and Electric Co (PG&E) gas line has destroyed 53 homes and killed one person.

Still, the industry is growing. Not only does the cleaner-burning resource have a green edge over high-polluting coal, energy companies have figured out how to access uptapped reserves in beds of shale in recent years, and have been doing so at unprecedented rates. Shale gas production in the U.S. rose 71% between 2007 and 2008, according to the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). Meanwhile, environmental groups and residents near these new drilling operations have real concerns that the method being used to extract the gas may generate toxic wastewater and, worse, could cause groundwater pollution in their vicinities.

Happy Birthday, 19th Amendment

90th anniversary the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution gave women the right to vote.
In 1776, Abigail Adams urged her husband, and eventual second president of the United States, John Adams to "remember the ladies."
But shortly before the historic legislative tally, Harry T. Burn received a long letter from his mother back home in Niota.
She said, in part:

I have been watching to see how you stood, but have not noticed anything yet. Don't forget to be a good boy.

Harry T. Burn behaved himself. He changed his "nay" vote to "yea."

"You never know how important something is to you until it's gone," Carter said. "And when it's gone, then you'll be surprised how hard you'll fight to get it back."

Solar Tsunami 2010 to hit Earth at any time

Threat to destroy satellites and global communication grids

The Sun's surface erupted early Sunday bursting out tons of plasma into space directly towards the Earth.
This Space storms are strong enough to hit Satellites, Communication and Power in Earth.

• The Ionized atoms should hit the Earth tonight.

• Sources said possible destruction to satellites in orbit.

"This eruption is directed right at us and is expected to get here early in the day on Aug. 4th," said Leon Golub of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. "It's the first major Earth-directed eruption in quite some time."

NASA's Solar dynamic Observatory captures high-definition views of the Sun in variety of wavelengths.

When a Mass ejection from Sun reaches Earth leads to stream down our planets' magnetic field lines towards the poles.

Dr Lucie Green, of the Mullard Space Science Laboratory, Surrey, said "These eruptions occur when immense magnetic structures in the solar atmosphere lose their stability and can no longer be held down by the sun's huge gravitational pull. Just like a coiled spring suddenly being released, they erupt into space."
"This means we have a very good chance of seeing major and prolonged effects, such as the northern lights at low latitudes."

The Nitrogen and Oxygen in the Earth's atmosphere collision with particles from the Sun which then glow similar to miniature neon signs.

Sky watchers in the northern U.S look toward the Curtains of Green and Red light.
The Solar Particles could also affect satellites. This may cause 15 satellites out of action.

Study identifies that sleep-deprived study participants who allowed to sleep for 4 hours a day risk of heart disease has been increased and the greatness were seen in those who spend 10 hours a sleep a night.

The results were adjusted for
