China to Build Port in Srilanka | Chinese in Lanka
The  construction work of the Colombo South Harbor will be expedited.  Five meters of the  brake water  has already been completed.  The Chairman of the Sri Lanka Port Authority Dr.Priyath Bandu Wickrema said  that construction of  the remaining two kilo meters will be completed before the end of this year. He said that  this is one of the large development projects being carried out in the country and over 1200  workers  are being deployed.  He said  to make Sri Lanka a naval hub of Asia   the physical resources of the country should be developed.  The  length of the terminal  of the harbor  is  3 and half kilo meters and 12 large and small vessels can be birthed simultaneously at this terminal.  Referring  to employment opportunities Dr.Priyath said that  the new harbor will generate 25,000  direct and indirect employments. He said the companies that  are constructing the terminals  will invest  1.5 million US dollars.  The harbor  will  earn a revenue of  1.2 million US dollars annually.  Both  harbors  in Colombo will earn a revenue of 1.7 million rupees thus contributing a  considerable amount to the  GDP of the country.

Port has been tendered to China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) and Sino Hydro Corp.
